Welcome to Youth Social Press

FILM & MEDIA NGO

Youth Social Press (YSP) is a Film and Media NGO devoted to empowering young people across Africa. Through film, journalism, and innovative storytelling, YSP addresses pressing social issues that disproportionately impact the continent’s youth, such as human rights, unemployment, and poverty. YSP operates with a core mission: to nurture youth talent, amplify diverse voices, and drive awareness around challenges that require urgent attention. Guided by the principle of Ubuntu, YSP collaborates with communities and organizations to build a robust network for creating impactful narratives that foster social change.

At YSP, we prioritize youth skill development as our primary focus, recognizing it as a pivotal avenue for personal growth and societal transformation. Through our multifaceted programs, we not only strive to inform and engage the public on pressing issues but also equip young individuals with the tools and knowledge necessary to thrive in the media arts sector. By offering educational opportunities and practical training, we aim to empower the next generation of African filmmakers and journalists, ultimately contributing to the advancement and revitalization of the African Film Industry.

BACKGROUND AND INSPIRATION

Youth Social Press Agency (YSP) was born out of a deep-seated recognition that storytelling is a vital tool in addressing the complex challenges our world faces today. Inspired by pressing social issues affecting African youth, as well as broader global challenges, YSP was influenced by impactful initiatives like the Millennium Project and the Sustainable Development Goals. This foundation led to our mission: to create a platform where mythic themes, classic storytelling techniques, and the urgent realities of social and environmental issues converge to drive meaningful change.

Understanding the gravity of the challenges we face from human rights abuses, poverty, and inequality to ecological crises and political instability, YSP weaves powerful narratives that bring these issues to the forefront. Our approach empowers young individuals by giving them a voice to address the “big old mess” our world contends with. Through the lens of mythic challenges and transformative storytelling, YSP seeks to engage youth in tackling issues like social justice, unemployment, climate change, and the pursuit of equality. By illuminating stories that resonate and inspire, YSP connects young people and communities to the heart of what matters. Through film and media, we aim to enable individuals to not only witness the world’s issues but to become proactive in shaping solutions that make a lasting impact, fostering resilience, empathy, and empowerment across Africa and beyond
